Flash Attack Flies has recently been awarded the runners up prize in the 2011 Total Flyfisher Magazines Tackle Awards for the manufacture of quality trout flies.
“To be runner up behind worldwide recognised Fulling Mill is a massive achievement. We beat off some very good competitors, and this is a fantastic foundation to build on for the future!” said Craig
A day that promised to be easy, turned a little tricky for some at the Anglian/Airflo Northern eliminator heat at Rutland Water on Sunday 28th April.
Strong winds made things difficult as many people scoured the lake in search of fish.
Froggies Fly Fishers took 1st place with an outstanding performance, with 46 fish between the 6 man team.
Conditions forced most, if not all anglers to fish the dark side (sinking lines) for the day. using a combination of blobs and boobies.
I took my 8 fish to the Mini bite tequila booby and tequila blob fished on a di-7 line. Boat partner, Renegades’ John Hardy took his 8 fish(an hour before me!!) on boobies.
Mike Dixon fishing in the Church Bay took his 6th fish at 17.51pm – this fish took us (Seighford Sharks)into the next round !! Every minute counts!!
The killing pattern !!
Fish week 713 (1461 season) Returns 123 (288) Rod average 5.79 (5.09)
With a change in the weather over the weekend large numbers of anglers have enjoyed some good fishing at Grafham Water. The fish are still in fairly close to the bank so the bank anglers along the North shore are having good sport. The fish are lying quite deep at around 8 – 10 feet down, with the best flies being lures in black and green.
Boat anglers are also enjoying good sport in the same areas along the north shore as well as the Seat and Q buoy.
If the weather continues to warm up the buzzer fishing will start with a vengeance, there have already been some small hatches on the warmer days.
Best methods See report.
Best boat areas G Buoy, Willows, Seat and Q Buoy.
Best bank areas Willows, G Buoy, Deep Water and Pylon Point.
Fish stocked 2,000.
Zig bug fishing for carp fishing is due to hit an all time high this year according to some experts. Carp zig bugs are specially tied flies to look like natural insects, or insect larvae, or simply a bug !
Flash Attack Flies launched its first carp zig bug in July 2012 and since then it has gone from strength to strength in the zig bug carp market. The Flash Attack range of carp zig bugs is now being distributed my tackle giants Leeda, and the zig bugs can now be found in many shops and fisheries throughout the UK.
Flash Attack Fly company owner Craig Barr is no stranger to flies. Having fly fished for over 30 years, including at International level, Craig has also established his company as a leading brand within the fly market.
The Flash Attack range of carp zig bugs have been tied on Hanak barbless hooks, a leading brand of barbless hooks in the fly fishing world. These chemically sharpened hooks are strong and will hold out against any fish. Infact, our flies have already landed carp in excess of 30lb !
When you are looking for Zig Bugs, there is just one name to remember – Flash Attack Flies.
A real big fish catcher !!
Peter Batchelor is no stranger to the world of Fly Fishing. Peter was the founder of the world famous Okey Dokey buzzer, and his keen eye to detail in flies is sure to be an asset to Flash Attack Flies.

It is no secret that Draycote Water in Warwickshire boasts probably the best buzzer fishing available in the UK. It’s rich food source allows the trout to grow on quick, and become power houses in there own right within months of entering the lake.

The itch to go fishing got the better of me last weekend so on route to Llangollen in Wales I stopped at Packington trout fishery. The weather was far from perfect, very cold, and there was a distinct look of snow in the air.
My intention was to fish with the new Owl buzzer to show myself that it not only works on Draycote, where I manage, but catches elsewhere too!
Needless to say I was proven right. The red holographic owl(size did the business, with 4 fish in an hour.
The full range of “Owl” buzzers can be seen on our website – www.flashattackflies.com
There are not many organisations that could receive an e-mailed order on Friday evening, confirm and despatch the order the following morning and with the help of Royal Mail deliver the goods to your door the following Monday morning.
And, to make this even more remarkable, I even asked if you could select flies that would be particularly suitable for Grafham Water.
So, just a short note of thanks to you and your team for your outstanding service and excellent flies – they look great and I cannot wait to use them.
Many thanks again.
Kind regards and best wishes
